Overall, Restaurante Fumu is recognized for its flawless service, delicious flavors, and a unique ambiance that encourages repeat visits, standing out as a valued addition to the Asturias culinary scene.
Had a great time. Food was delicious, I would repeat any of the dishes without hesitation. We did the omakase. Service was great - music was a bit loud at first but after we asked to turn it down a bit, they did it right away. Can’t wait to go back to try the anguila.
A nice little surprise. The food was delicious, the seafood was fresh and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly
I had the Omakase menu yesterday night. Amazing food, chef, atmosphere, and staff. If you aren't sure whether it might be worth the price or not, I can assure you that it definitely is. We need more places like Fumu in Asturias, I will definitely come back again.
An absolutely fantastic display of prime local ingredients and Japanese cooking. The interior is stylish, cosy and creates a great ambiance. We had the tasting menu and it arrived like clockwork, there was no delay between each dish. The service during our visit was flawless in terms of our friendly waitress who explained each dish. The food was excellent quality and some really delicious flavours. I deducted a star as at the end of the savoury options on the tasting menu, our waitress informed us that we had finished our last savoury dish, and then brought the sweet brioche dish. However, after this dish, she did not inform us that this was the final dish. We waited over 30 minutes thinking there was a delay, until we realised that there was only 1 sweet dish on this tasting menu. Our waitress was out of sight for a long time and reappeared when a new couple entered the restaurant to be seated. Only then did we ask for the bill. However, for the price of the meal I expected to be at least be informed that the brioche was the last dish, or at least for her to have asked whether we needed anything else before handing us the bill. Other than this though, she was very friendly and we really appreciated the time she took to explain each dish to us, we just felt confused by the ending to our meal as the restaurant did not have many people and therefore more time could have been dedicated to checking up on our table. Similarly, I feel that the tasting menu would benefit from an extra sweet dish, it is quite lopsided with the savoury dishes. I have seen from previous reviews that it used to also include a Japanese mochi dish fusion with arroz con leche, which I felt was much more exciting than the brioche dessert. I also disliked the price of the water. Usual restaurants charge around 3.50 for a large bottle of water. However, Fumu charges around 5.60 for 2 small bottles of 'premium' water. The fact that the bottles are not even large is quite off-putting. All in all, I feel that with some minor tweaks this would've absolutely been a 5 star experience, and I look forward to coming back in the future.
Wonderful experience! We have chosen the Omakase as our first experience in this restaurant last Sunday, and the result were more than satisfactory: the ambient was delightful, very personal (we were just 6 people for that experience), the chef explained every single step on the gastronomic journey, not only the composition of the dishes, but also what was the motivation behind each of them. The quality of the product was excellent, and the taste was delicate but at the same time tasteful and deep, real. Alvaro the chef has got us in a journey through the local recipes of Asturias using the Japanese traditional techniques and food. Absolutely recommended.
Increíble! We've eaten at Fumu twice now, once off the menu and now the omakase. The fish is high quality and flavors are amazing. Menu items are more traditional Japanese sushi and Fumu is on par with quality sushi we've eaten in Japan. The restaurant staff are friendly, responsive and great at explaining the dishes. The fusion Asturian rice pudding mochi ball dessert is something out of my dreams!
Absolutely a foodie’s paradise in Gijon. Wildly inventive using the absolute highest quality of products. My 4th visit. I will go EVERY time I am in Gijon. The best sushi experience of my life and I have eaten sushi all over the world, including Japan. Do not miss this. Make sure to book the Omakase experience.
So excited to find such exceptional Japanese sushi in Gijon! Chef Alvaro may not be Japanese but his artistry and mastery of sushi is comparable to what we experienced in Tokyo. The training he received in London and Madrid set him up for success. The omakase experience was so entertaining and enjoyable. Definitely the way to go at this restaurant. Don’t be late though! This is one Spanish restaurant that doesn’t tolerate lateness. If you love sushi, don’t let the higher prices dissuade you. Each bite was worth the price. The three of us who went have all been to Japan and have very high standards. Each of us had moments where we teared up because it was so delicious. What makes this place even more unique is how Chef Alvaro integrates his Asturian heritage to showcase the best of Japan and Asturias. Highly recommend the omakase option which is only offered twice a day. The sake and beer options were fabulous too. Enjoy!
